Merriam-Webster's Learner Dictionary defines plagiarism as "the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit to that person." Plagiarism is much more than simply copying or using someone else's ideas and can be a difficult concept to fully understand.

I recommend looking at our Plagiarism LibGuide. It provides a useful way to think about what plagiarism is and how you can avoid it. The Purdue Online Writing Lab also has a very useful overview about plagiarism.
